UMPI golf hosts Terriers

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s golf team hosted the Thomas College Terriers at the beautiful Presque Isle Country Club on Oct. 3. First tee time started at 11 a.m., conditions were mid to low 50s, calm winds with an overcast.

The Terriers finish with a team score of 318, Owls finish with a team score of 352. Evan Parsons of Thomas led all with a score of 77 (+5).

Dawson Watson (first year, Fort Fairfield) finished his first college match with an 84 (+12) to lead the Owls. Watson started slow with a 46 in the front nine, but finished strong in the back with a 38, two birdies. Payton Jones (sophomore, Green Cove Springs, Florida) led the Owls with the first tee shot of the day, finishing his round with a personal best 85 (+13). Jones finished the front nine with a 41 and the back with a 44.

Another first match for Dalton Gillis (first year. Middleburg, Florida) finishing with a 90 (+18). Gillis scored a 43 on the front nine and a 47 on the back. Christian Mumley (senior, Guilford) was the final scorer for the Owls with a 93 (+21) after a solid front nine score of 43, Mumley struggled in the back with a 50.

Timothy Burns (sophomore, Green Cove Springs, Florida) finished with a 95 (+23) and Jordan Hanscom (senior, Lincoln) finished with a 96 (+24).

The Owls will head to Waterville to play another match against Thomas College on Sunday, Oct. 11, time is TBD. The match will be hosted at the Waterville Country Club.
