City plants yellow tulips for hope

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Yellow Tulip Project focuses on smashing the stigma that surrounds mental illness and building a community where people realize there is help and hope out there.

The Project has been planting 19 “Hope Gardens” at schools and community organizations from Fort Kent to Dyer Brook this fall and then hopes to welcome the tulips in the spring. There will be 55 blubs planted at each garden.  These communal events bring people together and provide a space for conversations about mental health.

The City of Presque Isle’s garden spot on the corner of State and Main streets is the location of one of the Hope Gardens.

Three members of Daisy Troop 794 — Polly Bell, Ruby Kind and Emelyn Gosselin — from Bridgewater/Mars Hill, along with Presque Isle Girl Scout Bobbi Guerrette, assisted in the planting.

The project is spearheaded by Dawn Roberts of Northern Light AR Gould.

Athena Hallowell and AR Gould employees Brian Mosher and Linda Menard also assisted in the Presque Isle planting.
