AUGUSTA, Maine — Rep. Joseph Underwood, R-Presque Isle has been appointed to serve on the Legislature’s Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee. Reached for comment this week, Rep. Underwood said he is looking forward to supporting Maine’s natural resource economy during and after the current pandemic.

“This is a great committee assignment for a legislator from Aroostook County,” he said. “I am excited to get to work with my colleagues to look at how we can support farming, logging and trade. I’ll make sure the perspectives of my constituents in Presque Isle are shared with the committee so we can identify solutions which work for rural Maine.”

This ACF Committee is charged with evaluating legislative proposals relating to the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; agricultural development; agricultural fairs, products and marketing; animal control and welfare; harness racing; food policy; food safety, inspection and labeling; dairy industry; pest management and pesticides regulation; industrial hemp; state parks, historic sites, public lands and submerged lands; Maine Land Use Planning Commission; geological surveying and mapping; Maine Forest Service; timber harvesting; industrial hemp; the Land for Maine’s Future Program; and Baxter State Park.
