Top seeds hold true in boys quarterfinals

The top seeds have thus far held true for schoolboy basketball playoffs following the quarterfinal round. Semifinals will be held Saturday, followed by regional championships on Tuesday and an overall championship game set for Thursday, March 11.

Southern Aroostook 81, Katahdin 40 — Played at Katahdin High School Thursday, No. 3 Southern Aroostook (9-4 overall) doubled the score of No. 6 Katahdin thanks to a total team effort. Thirteen different players scored for the Warriors in the Class D quarterfinal.

Leading the way for SA were Hunter Burpee with 20 points, while Graham Siltz added 10, Jacob Brooks chipped in eight and Buddy Porter and Dylan Burpee both had seven.

For Katahdin (2-10 overall), Grady Ritchie tossed in 12 points, while Wyatt Smith and Wesley Richardson each had six.

Southern Aroostook led 24-12, 47-20 and 67-24 at the quarter breaks. 

With the victory, the Warrior boys advance to the semifinals Saturday, where they take on No. 2 Easton (10-3).

Presque Isle, 94, Hodgdon 47 — At Presque Isle, the No. 4 Wildcats (7-6) rolled to a big win over No. 5 Hodgdon (4-9). Individual results were not reported. With the win, Presque Isle advances to the semifinals, where the Wildcats will face No. 1 Caribou Saturday. The Vikings (12-0) advanced with a 78-43 win over No. 8 Fort Kent (2-5) Thursday.
