Gerritsen earns MPA Award

MARS HILL, Maine — Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School’s principal, Dr. Kay York, has announced the recipient of the 2021 Principal’s Award, senior Amy Gerritsen of Bridgewater. 

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic excellence, outstanding school citizenship and leadership.

Throughout high school, Gerritsen has shown great dedication and determination, striving to do her best academically and in her extracurricular activities including sports, community service and working at Wood Prairie Family Farms.  

She has earned numerous academic honors and awards for various classes and has earned honor roll placement for 12 consecutive quarters. She is a member of the National Honor Society and currently serves as the National Honor Society president.  

Gerritsen has served her community by working with children in the Bridgewater recreation program, various other children’s programs and volunteered with Catholic Charities of Maine harvest program. 

She has played soccer throughout high school and has also been a member of the Central Aroostook’s cheerleading squad throughout high school, winning three state championships.

She will receive a plaque and pin and will also be eligible for one of ten $1,000 scholarships given out during a live, virtual scholarship drawing event on May 14.  

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
