Hodgdon shuts out Owls in D baseball quarterfinal

HODGDON, Maine — The top-ranked Hodgdon Hawks improved to 15-1 on the season with a 12-0 shutout victory against No. 8 Madawaska in a Class D North quarterfinal Thursday afternoon.

The Hawks jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to smart base running and a couple of throwing errors by Madawaska.

With the win, Hodgdon advances to the semifinals, where the team will face No. 5 Southern Aroostook/Houlton at 1 p.m. The Warriors advanced to the semifinals with a win over No. 4 Woodland Thursday. 

The winner of this game advances to the Class D North championship, 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 16 at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.

For Hodgdon, Austin Winslow doubled and singled twice while scoring three runs. Elijah Matheson singled, doubled and scored two runs, while Troy Hipsley singled three times and scored two runs.

Madawaska (11-4 overall) was led by RJ Minor and Robbie Lausier, who each singled.
