115 Years Ago – Dec. 4, 1906

New delivery driver –George Brown has entered the employ of Tornquist Bros. and will drive their delivery wagon.

Cold weather troubles  – – Plumbers have been more than busy this past week, working day and night repairing frozen pipes caused by the cold snap.

100 Years Ago – Dec. 8, 1921

New entrance The upstairs entrance of the Caribou National Bank Building has been changed so it now comes next to the Combination Clothing Store. A large plate glass window has been placed in position of the former entrance.

Now that’s a wide plow — Big farming is the rule in Aroostook County, but we have not heard of any farm which has given such a demonstration in that line as the farm of J.E. Hayden on the famous CenterLine Road. About a month ago when harvest was in progress there, a single field of 125 acres was being plowed and in doing this nine furrows were turned at a time.

75 Years Ago – Dec. 4, 1946

Successful hunt  — Mr. Ernest Ashby returned home from a hunting trip bringing with him a nice 7 point deer weighing about 200 pounds.

Potato industry gets a new mascot — The new Maine Potato Boy floor display issued, “It’s not a meal without potatoes.” It features a boy wearing overalls and a straw hat pushing a wheelbarrow which holds a sack of “State of Maine” potatoes.

50 Years Ago – Dec. 8, 1971

Police officer graduates — Patrolman Daniel LeClerc of the Caribou Police Department, graduated from the 25th Municipal Criminal Justice  Academy in Waterville.

Woman of the Year Mrs. Clara Piper was honored as the “1971 Woman of the Year” by the Caribou Business and Professional Women’s Club.

25 Years Ago – Dec. 4, 1996

First-grader wins essay contest Mr. Charles Hartman, Principal of Caswell Elementary School, is proud to announce that Addison Rossignol, a first grader, has won second place in a statewide essay contest. The Cole Land Museum sponsored the contest about what freedom means to me. He won a $250 savings bond, certificate and a pin.

Turkey Trot — P.J. Gorneault and Rose Morison capped individual titles at the 11th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Road Race held at Caribou High School Saturday. The runner of the year was P.J. Gorneault of Stockholm. The Sam Ouellet Trophy for excellence in running in Northern Maine was presented to Gene Ross of Houlton.
