Presque Isle girls collect sixth win of season

EAST MACHIAS, Maine — The Presque Isle girls basketball team won for the sixth time in its last seven games as the Wildcats claimed a comfortable 67-34 victory over Washington Academy in East Machias Saturday afternoon.

Senior Faith Sjoberg and junior Anna Jandreau both registered season-high totals in points for Presque Isle (6-2 overall) as Sjoberg poured in 25 points and Jandreau added 19. Sjoberg also notched five steals and three assists, while Jandreau dished out six assists.

With the win, PI rose to third place in the Class B North rankings. Washington Academy’s record fell to 5-3.

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, the Wildcats needed a 13-7 fourth-quarter run to pull away for a 45-37 triumph over visiting Caribou.

Sjoberg netted 20 points, including 15 in the second half, while Jandreau contributed 13 points, all in the first half, along with four assists.

Freshman Maddie Deprey netted 16 points and Abby Leahy, also a freshman, posted 11 for Caribou, which trailed by only two points (32-30) after three periods. The Vikings, who defeated John Bapst Saturday, are now 3-4 on the campaign.
