FORT KENT, Maine — The Fort Kent Community High School varsity girls basketball team fought hard to overcome the Caribou Vikings Tuesday, but despite a fourth quarter Warrior run, Caribou emerged victorious, 47-39.

Caribou’s Abby Leahy had a game-high 21 points.

Lily Oliver led the way for Fort Kent with 15 points, while Emilia Voisine contributed eight points and nine rebounds.

“The Warriors were tough defensively and caused a lot of turnovers,” Vikings coach Kayla Brown said. “Although we did not execute as well as we hoped to offensively, we were able to stay composed and finish out the game. Our team is young and has gained crucial experience every game.”

Caribou moved to 7-7 on the season with the win, and Brown said the team hopes to be in a position to host a home prelim during the postseason.

The Warriors dropped to 5-6 on the year.

“The girls are working really hard on their confidence — we know they have the talent and can all contribute, and they are starting to see it, too,” Warriors assistant coach Alexa Massey said. “I know that we are all excited for them to keep playing with intensity, intention, and believing in themselves for the rest of the season.”
