Kindness abounds

A big shout out to Carter Cyr of Sinclair. This kind and compassionate 12-year-old boy started his own business in the Long Lake area and donated a portion of his proceeds to the shelter.

Go to our Central Aroostook Humane Society Facebook page and check out the photo, story and well over 50 wonderful comments in support of this amazing young man.  You rock, Carter!

Sometimes we don’t give our young people enough credit for their thoughts and actions.  It’s easy to shake our heads and wonder what the future will hold with the generations that are coming behind us.  Our hope is that parents will teach their children the importance of kindness, compassion and empathy, and especially treating the world and everything in it with love and respect.

We have experienced that thoughtfulness here at the Central Aroostook Humane Society many times over.  Last month the National Honor Society students from Central Aroostook High School in Mars Hill raised $200 for the Central Aroostook Humane Society. They were excited to present this amazing gift and hang out with the animals.

And then there was sweet little Marleia, who had just turned 11 years old. Instead of presents, she asked for donations to be made to the shelter in memory of her kitty, King Buzzieo.  What a kindhearted young lady.

Even the 2021 Miss Northern Maine queens got in on the action and dropped off many bags of pet food, treats, bowls, toys and even several cozy pet throws. Such thoughtful ladies.

Just an update for those who had wondered what was received for Betty White’s birthday. We exceeded $3,300 in monetary donations and many items donated through Amazon, along with people coming here and donating supplies.! Thank you all so very much.

For all the folks who send random supplies in the mail, drop off many donations in our lobby and send anonymous gifts that truly surprise us at times, please know that such wonderful kindness is so very much appreciated

Stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society or check out our Facebook page. Our hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, closing for lunch from 12 to 12:30.

Please be responsible, and spay and neuter your pets. Happy spring.
