HOULTON, Maine – Over the long Memorial Day weekend, the Houlton Community Golf Course will be busy with many golfers enjoying a round or two of golf.

We have seen many familiar faces, but more and more new faces are showing up. Please remember if you have not been a member at the golf course for over two years you are eligible for half-price membership. 

The annual Ladies Association’s Opening Banquet took place on Tuesday, May 24, at the Lakeside Restaurant. There was a great turnout propelled by an exciting increase in membership. There will be a scramble every Tuesday at 4 p.m., please be there by 3:45 p.m. A potluck will follow after play. If anyone has questions about the Ladies Association or are interested in joining, please call the golf course at 207-532-2662. 

 On Monday, June 6, the Men’s Twilight League begins. We have a full roster again this year, which will, without a doubt, lead to some great matches. Match schedules will be released soon and will be posted at the clubhouse and www.houltongolf.com. New this year, all play must occur on Monday.

 Golf For Life is having another great year, we have over 40 people taking part in this totally free introduction to golf. We look forward to seeing all of the participants on the course, and taking part in two scrambles Saturday, July 10, and Sunday, Aug. 7. Remember participants of this program are eligible for half-price memberships.

Junior golf will be starting June 20. Call the clubhouse to sign up. 

 On Saturday, June 4, our Memorial Tournament will  be held. This is a 4-person, 18-hole scramble. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon and social hour and awards at 5 p.m. Sign-up is $25 per person, which includes a mulligan and pins. Members and guests are welcome. 

The signup deadline is Thursday, June 2, and spots are filling up fast, so call the clubhouse now to sign up at 532-2662. All proceeds from this tournament go towards the beautification of the course. Grab three friends and sign up today. Don’t have a team? Call the clubhouse and let them know. We’ll do our best to get you on a team.

Other upcoming tournaments are the Mucho Moolah 2 Person Scramble June 25, and the Alumni Scramble July 9. Spots are filling up fast for these super popular events, so sign up today with the clubhouse by calling 207-532-2662. 

The Lakeside Restaurant has had excellent reviews the first few weeks of being open this season. If you have not been out yet, you are surely missing out. They are open Wednesdays-Saturdays, 4-8 p.m. and Sundays 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.. Call 207-694-9494 for reservations.
