WASHBURN, Maine — The Beavers have revived the cross country program after not competing in 2021 and have 12 boys and six girls competing for eighth-year coach Kolbie Churchill.
The program has experienced success in recent years. The boys placed third in Class C three years ago and qualified for the state meet in 2020, but that competition was scrapped due to COVID-19.
The girls were one of the best teams in Class C less than a decade ago behind competitors such as Carsyn Koch, Carmen Bragg and Kenzie Worcester.
Churchill is excited to see who emerges for both the boys and the girls this fall, with many runners having the potential to contribute to the team scoring.
Senior Kaiden Rosi-Carney, junior Roegan Rosi-Carney and senior Chris Tardie are expected to lead the way for the boys. Tardie is coming off an exception track and field season last spring and all three are also contributors for the school’s soccer team.
Senior Braden Elliot and freshman Garrett Plourde are frontrunners to be in the Beavers’ overall top five. Junior Castor Mendoza, sophomore Damien DuMont, freshmen Jacob Doak, Gage Espling, Mitchell Hewitt, Ben Harris and Isaac Sines are the other boys on the team.
There appears to be plenty of competition for the top spot on the girls team. Churchill said sophomore Madison Elliot and freshman Jaici Rosi-Carney have been impressive in the early going, but seniors Emily Coy, Heidi Echevarria and Lucy Tate and sophomore Madyson Coy will also be in the mix
Madelyn Johnston and Isabelle Allen are the managers.
