Busy time on the hardwood for central Aroostook hoop teams

Local high school basketball squads have been busy in the week before Christmas break. The following scores were reported to the newspaper by presstime.

Girls Basketball

Central Aroostook High School 34, Ashland 24 — On Wednesday, Dec. 14, Kira Fitherbert led the charge for the Central Aroostook Panthers with 14 points. Ashland’s Kayla MacLean netted 12 points. Central Aroostook’s record stands at 1-2, while Ashland sits at 1-1 for the Class D season.

Easton 43, Van Buren 18 — On Friday, Dec. 16, Easton’s Amelia Bate was the leading scorer with 19 points. Bate’s teammate Madison Seely wasn’t far behind with 12 points as she led the charge down the court on some plays. 

For Van Buren, Mallory Beaulieu was the leading scorer at seven points.

The Easton girls are at 1-2, while Van Buren stands at 1-1.

Presque Isle 43, John Bapst 47 — John Bapst won out over the Presque Isle Wildcats with Anna Jandreau leading in scoring with 16 points, followed by Georganna Curtis with 10 points. Jandreau also netted four 3-point shots to keep the Wildcats in the game, but John Bapst edged out to win the game.

Presque Isle sits at 1-2 for the season.

Boys Basketball

Central Aroostook 63, Ashland 27 — It was a tough match for the Ashland Hornets Dec. 14  as Inyas Janoch led his team with nine points. Hornet Dakota Southerland netted seven points and Cole Eastman contributed six points. 

Central Aroostook’s John Coffin had a great game with 16 points with contributions from his teammate Hunter Charette at 14 points.

The Ashland Hornets are 0-2 as Central Aroostook added a win to their 2-1 season.

Easton 49, Van Buren 25 — The Easton Bears had an explosive home game Dec. 16 with Evan Carver ratcheting up 17 points and Owen Sweeney chipping in with 13 points. Van Buren’s Noah Martin was the leading scorer at eight points, while Adian Morrow had three.

Easton Bears are 2-0 for the season and Van Buren stands at 1-1.

Presque Isle 63, John Bapst 36 — The Wildcats won their first game of the season on Saturday, Dec. 17, with Malachi Cummings pouring in a game-high 21 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds. Wildcat Jack Buck chipped in with 14 points for Presque Isle. 

The 1-2 Wildcats are looking to improve their standings as the Class B season continues.

Easton 70, Washburn 41 — Easton had another strong home game match against Washburn on Dec. 19 with Bear Evan Carver rallying 28 points followed closely by his teammate Owen Sweeney at 22 points and netted four 3-point shots. Beavers Derek Cruz and Brayden Worsley both racked up 15 points in a good effort to keep Washburn competitive on the court.

Easton’s undefeated record continues at 4-0 with Washburn now 1-2 for the season.
