Presque Isle pulls out all the stops for victory at the start of 2023

Local high school basketball teams went strong this week at the start of the new year. The following scores were reported to the newspaper by presstime.

Boys Basketball

Easton 68, Central Aroostook 52 – On Jan. 2, Easton managed to push its undefeated season to 7-0 after a victory over Central Aroostook at Easton High School gym. Easton’s Evan Carver had a phenomenal game with 23 points scored, while Owen Sweeney contributed 20.

Central Aroostook had Colby Burlock racking up 15 points and Hunter Charette contributed nine points. Central Aroostook is at 2-4 for the Class C season with two losses attributed to Easton.

Presque Isle 47, Washington Academy 30 – On Jan. 7, Presque Isle had a close Class B game during the first quarter against Washington Academy. Presque Isle hit the gas in the second quarter with a 10-point lead. 

Jack Buck netted 15 points for the Wildcats, along with Ben Turner, Jack Boone, and Malachi Cummings contributed 13 points respectively.

Presque Isle is at 4-5 so far in the Class B season.

Girls Basketball

Central Aroostook 45, Easton 3 – On Jan. 2, Central Aroostook had a runaway game with Kira Fitzherbert netting 15 points and Abby Haines piling on 12 points. 

Easton is now 2-7 for the Class D season after another defeat from Madawaska on Jan. 7. Central Aroostook is 5-3 for its Class C season.

Presque Isle 63, Washington Academy 31 – Presque Isle had a blow out game against Washington Academy on Saturday, Jan. 7, beginning with a 9-1 run with every team member scoring for Presque Isle. Georganna Curtis racked up 14 points with four steals for Presque Isle, while Jorja Maynard scored nine points and Anna Jandreau netted eight points.

Jorja Maynard also hit a trio of 3-pointers and Anna Jandreau passed three assists for her Presque Isle teammates.

After its victory over Washington Academy, Presque Isle is now 5-4 for the Class B season.
