Houlton takes Aroostook cheering championship

MARS HILL, Maine — Houlton cheerleaders are Aroostook League champions after competing in Wednesday’s Aroostook League Cheerleading Showcase.

Five high school squads gave spirited performances at the event, held at the Central Aroostook High School gym.

Joining Houlton in the competition were squads from Fort Fairfield, Presque Isle, Central Aroostook and Caribou.

The Houlton team claimed the championship with a score of 57.4. Central Aroostook were the runners-up with a score of 57.9. 

Third place went to Presque Isle at 49.9, with fourth place going to Caribou with a score of 38.2. Fort Fairfield came in fifth place at 35.9.

Best Team Dance and Best Team Stunts went to the Houlton squad, with Central Aroostook taking Best Team Tumbling, Best Team Motions, and Best Team Jumps.

All-star tumblers were Julia Pierce for Central Aroostook and Houlton’s Lydia Byron. All star-jumpers were Presque Isle’s Lindsey Himes and Hailey Quint for Houlton.

The Houlton squad took the award for all-star stunt.

Caribou’s group won the spirit award for the showcase.
