FORT KENT, Maine — Acadia Federal Credit Union proudly announces the promotion of Erica Albert to executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective March 3. Albert will share the EVP role with current EVP Joey Cannan during a leadership transition period. This transition will culminate in Cannan becoming chief executive officer upon the retirement of current CEO David Desjardins on July 1. Albert will officially assume full responsibilities as EVP/CFO on July 2.

“Erica has already made a meaningful impact on Acadia through her leadership and financial insight, and I’m thrilled to see her take on this expanded role as EVP and CFO,” Joey Cannan. “She brings a steady, thoughtful approach that’s helped shape our path so far, and I know she’ll continue to guide us wisely as we grow. Her deep financial expertise will be a tremendous asset in the years ahead. On a personal level, I’m excited to work alongside Erica in this next chapter and grateful for the leadership she brings to our team.”

Albert began her credit union career in 1996 as the first accountant at LaVallée FCU in Madawaska, one of the legacy institutions that would later become part of Acadia FCU. Over the years, she played a pivotal role in building the organization’s accounting and finance functions from the ground up. She was promoted to accounting manager in 2013 and then to vice president of finance in 2019. Each of these positions was newly created, highlighting Albert’s initiative in building the systems, policies, and procedures that have helped shape Acadia’s long-term financial stability and growth.

Before launching her finance career, Albert gained hands-on experience in credit union operations, working her way through college as a teller and spending time in collections. These early front-line roles laid a strong foundation for her collaborative leadership style and instilled a lasting appreciation for the member service employees who are the face of the credit union.

“I am honored to step into the role of EVP and CFO and will remain committed to delivering exceptional service and strengthening the trust our employees, members, and communities place in us,” said Albert. “I believe that Acadia’s success is built on people — those we serve and those who make it all possible. I look forward to fostering a culture rooted in excellence, innovation, and integrity, so we can continue to meet evolving financial needs with personalized support and a strong commitment to service.”

Albert earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting with a minor in finance and economics from Thomas College in Waterville, where she studied from 1991-95. With nearly three decades at the credit union, Albert is known as a pragmatic and visionary leader. She is solution-oriented and skilled at balancing innovation with stability and places a strong emphasis on team development, empowerment, and accountability.

Closely connected to the communities Acadia FCU serves, Albert is a native of St. David and a graduate of Madawaska High School. She lives in Frenchville with her husband Mark and their youngest daughter, Macie. She also has two adult daughters, Emily and Shayna.
