YARMOUTH, Maine — The Northern Maine Moose boys lacrosse team fell at North Yarmouth Academy 17-3 in a Class C quaterfinal.

The seventh-seedded Moose started the game with the first two goals in the first quarter to gain some momentum against the No. 2 Panthers. There was then fairly even play up to halftime as the Moose faced a 6-3 deficit.

“We have had a couple of games where we were in this situation,” head coach Aaron Simoes said. “Down at half and have been able to make up the difference and come out ahead.  Unfortunately the momentum didn’t go our way, two key players got injured and we had to shift our strategy and personnel. It definitely changed the flow of the game and a well coached high ranked team like North Yarmouth Academy capitalized on this well.”

Isaiah Ervin had a goal and two assists for the Moose. Ervin ends the season with 196 total career points.

Eli Brown rolled the net for one goal and Colton Simoes added a goal. Jacob Bushey assisted Ervin’s goal.

Carter Smith had 14 saves on the day to finish the season with 113 saves.

It was a great match at the faceoff line with Simoes getting the ball out to be scooped up by Ervin, Forbush, Brayden Drake and Kamron Somes to help secure it. Jacob Bushey debuted on the line to help the overall win percentage to 57 percent. Simoes ends the season with over 200 faceoff wins.

“We spread out some goals and assists but we needed more depth to move the ball today and it didn’t happen,” Simoes said. “We came up short on shooting today despite opportunities. If you don’t shoot, you don’t score. “

“I’m proud of the Moose team and family,” he said. “It’s a privilege to coach each young man. I am thankful for the seniors who have come up through the ranks Isaiah Ervin, Gage Folsom, Ryker Forbush, Brandon Barton and Payton Powell. We feel supported by our community and today was a great example of Houlton supporting Northern Maine Moose lacrosse. Thank you Moose family and the town of Houlton.”
