Organizations
The Easton United Methodist Women met at the home of Freda Dionne for their monthly meeting with eight members present. The meeting was opened with devotions led by Glenice Craig, with the word for the month being, ‘light.’
The Purpose was read and the president led the group in a prayer for the names brought up for their prayer list. After the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports, the communications were read. Thank-yous were read from Mark Beaton for the Christmas cookies, and thank-yous from Ronald McDonald House, the Heifer Project and the Aroostook Division of the Red Cross. Under Community Service everyone said that they recycled and one member, Lindy Fowler, reported that she works in the soup kitchen in Presque Isle. It was reported that there are six baby quilts for sale and one queen-sized one. It was also reported that one crib quilt was sold. The group made only nine visitations this month due to the weather and five cards were sent.
Under New Business it was voted to hold Blanket Sunday on Mother’s Day as has been done in the past. The president will send for material for that day. Blankets are $5 each. A section of the Church World Service newsletter was read explaining just how the blankets are made of recycled material. Lindy Fowler brought up the fact that the Mary and Martha’s Soup Kitchen could use some of the plastic dishes, such as butter or whipped cream cartons, that people just throw away, for use at the kitchen. Those present were the hostess, Freda; president, Eldora Carter; Marie Hewitt; Marjorie Corey; Glenice Craig; Avis Hume; Lindy Fowler; and Dottie Beaton.
The Happy Days Senior Citizens Club met for their Feb. 22, meeting at the West Ridge Manor with 11 members present for the potluck luncheon. Two members had to leave before the meeting for other reasons. Guest speaker for the afternoon was Vicki St. Peter from Professional Home Nursing out of Caribou. She was accompanied by another member, Janet Kelly. St. Peter spoke to the group about two new infections that have come along: a resistant staph infection and a serious bacteria called Clostridium difficile (C-Diff) that infects the intestines. Both bacteria have become somewhat resistant to antibiotics. One staph infection that is bad is called MRSA and can be spread from one person to another by contact, so vigorous hand washing and cleaning of shared objects is a must. She said that bleach and soapy water is the best thing to use for disinfecting. Wash with this and then let it air dry. She was great on answering many of the questions presented by the members.
After guests St. Peter and Kelly left, President Marie Hewitt opened the regular meeting with a salute of the flag. She read a letter about the Recognition Banquet for the RSVPers and it was voted to donate $25to the cost of that event. It was also voted to donate a sum of money to the Pine Tree Baptist Church in memory of former club member Geraldine Corey, who was the Happy Days treasurer for many years. A get-well card was signed to be sent to Lucy Allen at The Aroostook Medical Center. Lucy is very ill and as of last Thursday was in the Intensive Care Unit after suffering a heart attack. She had been hospitalized a few days before.
Rec Department
Hilary Trainer, former Recreation Department director at Easton, has been rehired to carry on with this program.

Congratulations
Happy birthday goes out to Edith Fuller who can’t really celebrate her real birth date because she was born on a Leap Year, but we do wish her a happy one just the same.
We wish Bobby Ferris a happy one also and he is in the same boat because he was also born on a Leap Year.
Nick Flewelling and Sandy Flewelling and Sean O’Mara are also celebrating birthdays today, with Joe York celebrating tomorrow.
We wish Gerald and Vera Shaw a very happy wedding anniversary today.
Sympathy
Our sympathy goes out to the family of Lucy Allen, of Presque Isle and formerly of Easton. Lucy was 72 years old when she passed away early Saturday morning, Feb. 24, at the Presque Isle Hospital after a long illness. Lucy graduated from the Ashland High School and married her high school sweetheart, Frank Allen, in 1954. She graduated from the Aroostook State Teachers College in Presque Isle and worked for many years in the Ashland School District. Following Frank while he was in the service, she managed an apartment complex in Phonex, Arizona; back at home she worked for TESCO, was a member of the Ashland Fire Department and an EMT for the Ashland Ambulance Service for many years. She attended the Ashland Advent Christian Church and recently the Easton United Methodist Church. She was a loyal member of the Easton Happy Days Senior Citizens Club even after moving to Presque Isle. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Unit 9699, in Ashland and the American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 187 of Easton. She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Frank Allen, of Presque Isle; two daughters, Diana Dube of Damariscotta, and Linda Allen of Tucson, Arizona; and two sons, Frank Alllen III, of Mars Hill and Douglas Allen of Presque Isle and their families. Lucy was the 13th child of 14 and of those siblings only three brothers, Charles “Bud” Bolstridge of Boise, Idaho; Floyd, of East Millinocket; and Gerald “Pete” of Chicopee, Massachusetts; and one sister, Louisa Bartlett of Houlton; survives her. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. A graveside service will be held on May 19, at the Ashland Municipal Cemetery, with the time to be announced. Donations in her memory may be sent to daughter, Diana Dube, 16 Long Lane, Damariscotta, ME 04543, to assist in a special memorial.
