On March 3, Eastern Maine Class B basketball players, coaches and families gathered for the annual Big East Conference Awards Banquet. The dinner and award ceremony were held in Brewer, at Jeff’s Catering. Teams and many individual players from Presque Isle and Caribou were recognized for their achievements in the 2007 season.
For the girls, award winners included Angela Norsworthy, from Presque Isle, selected for All-Conference First Team, Senior All-Star, and Big East Player of the Year. Sarah Porter, also from Presque Isle, was selected for the All-Conference Second Team.
Representing Caribou was Karyn King, who was recognized as a Scholar Athlete and also awarded the Defensive Award. Janna Clukey, of Presque Isle, was also named a Scholar Athlete. Jessica Kinney, of Caribou, and Amy Michaud, for Presque Isle, both received the Spirit Award.
Kayla Legassie, from Presque Isle, was also awarded the Defensive Award. Shaina Watananuchit was the second Lady Wildcat recognized by the Big East Conference as a Senior All-Star.
For the boys, Viking Kyle Corrigan was selected for the All-Conference First Team and received the Defensive Award. Adam Kingsbury, Presque Isle, was also named All-Conference First Team. Russ Mortland, for the Wildcats, was given All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Scholar Athletes were Jeremiah Fitzherbert, from Caribou, and Gabe Cheney, of Presque Isle. Cheney was also named Conference Senior All-Star. Viking Kyle Anderson and Wildcat Trent Legassie were both honored with the Spirit Award.
Logan York, of Presque Isle, was recognized with the Defensive Award and also as a Big East Senior All-Star.
Both the Caribou girls and boys teams walked away from the banquet with the Sportsmanship Awards in hand. This is the second year that the boys have been given the award.
Viking boys’ coach Chris Casavant was also honored with the Boys’ Coach of the Year Award.
