    PRESQUE ISLE – Graves’ Shop ‘N Save presented a $1,000 education grant to Presque Isle Middle School May 18. The school raised the most dollars through the Hannaford Helps Schools program. In total, including the $1,000 education grant, the school raised $1,336.
    Under the terms of the program, which ran from Sept. 3 to Dec. 2, shoppers could raise funds for local schools by purchasing certain products from partners General Mills, Heinz, Barber Foods, Welch’s, Hershey, Kelloggs, Gorton’s, Unilever and Ocean Spray. More than 2,400 schools in five states participated in the program. In 2006, over $746,000 was raised. In the six years since its inception, the Hannaford Helps Schools program has raised over $3.2 million for participating schools.
    There was no limit on the amount that could be raised by each school. Each store has awarded an additional $1,000 education grant to the one school registered through that store that raised the most funds. Presque Isle Middle School was Graves’ Shop ‘N Save’s education grant winner.
    “On behalf of Hannaford, it gives me great pleasure to present this check to PIMS,” said Donald Samiya, store manager. “Graves’ Shop ‘N Save is committed to improving the quality of life in the communiti3es we serve, and I can’t think of a better way to do so then by investing in our local schools.”
