BRUCE, Mary F., Presque Isle & Fort Fairfield – 89 – died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at her Presque Isle residence. A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle.
Presque Isle & Fort Fairfield – Mary F. Bruce, 89, wife of the late Alton J. Bruce Sr., died unexpectedly Sunday morning, June 3, 2007, at her Presque Isle residence. She was born March 29, 1918 in Victoria, Michigan, the daughter of Adolph and Sophie (Del Russia) Giusti.
Mary was raised in the Galveston, Texas area where she attended school and was married to Alton J. Bruce on March 7, 1945. She came to Northern Maine as a new bride from Texas in 1946 and resided in Fort Fairfield until 1960 when the Bruce family moved to Presque Isle. Mary was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and preparing many wonderful meals. She was a senior volunteer at the Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle. Mary had been employed by the former Viner Shoe Company, Presque Isle for twenty years and was a devout catholic and communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle, and was a member of the Senior Citizens Organization , participating in their many activities. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Alton on March 2, 1990; three brothers, John, Benedict and Ralph Giusti; one sister, Elizabeth Serrano. She is survived by two sons, Alton J. Bruce Jr. and his wife Heidi, Robert V. Bruce and his wife Paula McCrossin, all of Fort Fairfield; one daughter, Katherine Bruce of Gorham, New Hampshire; one brother, Adolph Giusti of Galveston, TX; two sisters, Lillian Luciano of Galveston, TX, Madeline Del Prete of Spotwood, New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Rick, Aaron, Ashlea, James, Adam, Jared and Jonathan; two great grandchildren, Carter and Alexander; several nieces and nephews, and special friends Nelson and Carmella Guerette and family of Presque Isle.
Friends may call Wednesday, June 6, 2007, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Presque Isle with the Rev. Raymond Morency celebrant. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Bruce to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Memorial Fund, P.O.
