Ballteams move into post-season

As the 2007 spring sports season wraps up, many of the teams from Aroostook County are moving on to preliminary, quarterfinal and semifinal games.

Baseball and softball results
On Tuesday, May 29 Fort Fairfield hosted baseball and softball games against Madawaska. The Fort Fairfield Tigers came out on top at 7-3. Jake Kenneson pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts to help lead the team to its win. Ian Towle had a two-run double and Jeremy Dillon contributed a single and one RBI.
For the girls, the Lady Tigers were not able to pull off the win, with Madawaska taking the 14-5 win. Brooke Chasse had a double, a single, and also two RBIs for Fort Fairfield. Sarah Herbert contributed two singles and also had two RBIs.
Ashland’s softball team traveled to Washburn Tuesday and took home the win, with a 14-9 score at the end of the game. Andrea Mayo had a home run, a triple and singled twice for Ashland. Crystal Cook also had a double and singled twice, and Whitney Flint pitched 12 strikeouts.
For Washburn, Amy Reed and Erica McDougall each had three singles and Kelsee McLaughlin tripled.
On Wednesday, May 30, Central Aroostook High School hosted softball and baseball games against Ashland. Central Aroostook won the baseball game with a close score of 3-2; and the Ashland softball team won their game 18-4.
For the Panthers’ varsity baseball team, Sam Clockedile had an RBI double; while Mitch Folsom had an RBI single; and James Richard added a single.
Ashland’s Tony Baker contributed a single and one RBI.
On the girls side, Andrea Mayo led the Ashland Lady Hornets with a triple, double, single and 2 RBIs. Whitney Flint contributed a 3-run homer; and Autumn Cobb had three singles and an RBI.
For the Lady Panthers, Kayla Clark doubled with three RBIs and Sarah Long had an RBI double.
Also on Wednesday, Presque Isle hosted games for both the baseball and softball teams against Fort Kent. The Wildcats took both the wins, with the boys at 12-2 and the girls at 8-1.
On the boys’ side, Chris Beaulieu doubled and singled, with three RBIs; Logan York and Bennett Cassidy each contributed two singles.
For the girls, Angela Norsworthy doubled and singled with one RBI; Emily Curry singled twice and also had one RBI; while Alison Young had two singles.
Presque Isle High School’s varsity softball team is moving on to the Eastern Quarterfinals on June 7 to take on Medomak at home, at 4 p.m.
For Class D baseball, Central Aroostook High School took on Van Buren on June 5, with the winner moving on to play the number one seeded Ashland High school on June 7, at Ashland. Fort Fairfield, seeded fourth, will play the winner of the Southern Aroostook vs. Machias game on June 7, at Fort Fairfield.
The scheduled preliminary Class D softball games for June 5 included Central Aroostook traveling to Katahdin; Fort Fairfield traveling to Lee; and Ashland traveling to LCS/MSSM. For game results, see next week’s edition.
