Summer Programs
Registration is required for all summer recreation activities and programs. All program fees are to be paid during the registration period. Those programs that require fees will indicate the fee in the program description. There are a limited number of openings with some programs so please be sure to register early. Hooked on Fishing
    This event is for boys and girls under the age of 16 and their parents. “Hooked on Fishing” will be held at Monson’s Pond in Fort Fairfield on Saturday, June 16 with registration being held at the Frontier Fish and Game Club starting at 8 a.m. Participants are welcome to fish as long as they like, however giveaway prizes will be drawn at 1 p.m. Hamburgers and hot dogs along with soft drinks will be served at the Fish and Game Club from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. for all participants to enjoy. The Frontier Fish and Game Club in conjunction with the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department and Wal-Mart are sponsoring the event. Canoes, life vests, and paddles will be available free of charge at the pond for those who would like to try fishing from a canoe (under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult in the canoe). A limited number of fishing poles will also be available for kids to borrow. Participants are reminded to abide by all fishing and boating regulations while participating in this event. Youth Golf Program
The Aroostook Valley Country Club is offering a youth golf program this summer for boys and girls ages 9-14. The program is supported and partially funded by a grant through the USGA/AVCC. Golf pro Steve Leitch and assistant golf pro Steve Hansen will be instructing the program with assistance from others. The youth golf program will consist of one hour instruction blocks that will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from either 10-11 a.m. or 11 a.m.-noon, beginning on June 26.
Also as part of the program, participants will have the opportunity to play nine holes of golf each Thursday at 10 a.m. with supervision from a mentor, starting on June 28. Each participant enrolled in the Aroostook Valley Youth Golf Program will have the opportunity to play golf at AVCC on weekends and on holidays after 3 p.m. and will also have use of a set of golf clubs each day that they play.
To register for the youth golf program, contact AVCC at 476-8083. The cost for the entire eight week program is $50 and is payable to AVCC. Tennis Lessons
This program is for individuals 8 years of age and over. Lessons will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning on Monday, July 2 and ending Wednesday, August 1. Lesson times for beginners are from 12:30-1:15 p.m. and intermediate lessons are from 1:15-2 p.m. Lessons are held at the tennis courts next to the swimming pool. There is no cost to participate.
Swimming pool hours
Due to construction of the new swimming pool, the Fort Fairfield Municipal Swimming Pool will not be open for general swim until Wednesday, August 1(tentatively) and will remain open until the end of August. Once open, general swim hours will be Monday-Sunday from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Swim team
The swim team is for boys and girls up to 18 years of age as of May 1, 2007. The first practice will be held at the Indoor Pool in Presque Isle on Tuesday, June 19 from 4-5 p.m. The bus leaves the Community Center at 3 p.m. and returns at approximately 5:30 p.m. The swim meet schedule consists of three competitive meets held on Wednesdays during the month of July and ending with the County Championship in Presque Isle. An entire schedule of practices and meets will be made available to team members during the first week of practice.
Swimming lessons
Swimming lessons are available to boys and girls 18 years of age and under. Lessons follow pre-set guidelines established by the American Red Cross. There will be one five-week session that will begin on Monday, July 2 and will run through Wednesday August 1. This will be offered at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool.
The second session will be a two-week session and will (tentatively) begin on Monday, July 30 and end on Friday, August 10 at the Fort Fairfield Municipal Pool. If the new pool is not completed by that time, the second session of lessons will be offered starting Monday, August 6 and ending Friday, August 17. In either case, lessons will take place Monday through Friday for the second session. Parents can sign up a child for either session or you can sign them up to participate in both sessions. There is a class limit of 8-10 students, so register early for either session. The registration fee is $5 per student (due at time of registration), which goes to the American Red Cross. We are an authorized provider of the American Red Cross.
Session one runs from July 2-August 1. Lessons will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays. Priority for this session will be given to those students involved in the Summer Reading Program. Lessons will be held from 1-2 p.m. The bus will leave Fort Fairfield Elementary School at 12:15 p.m. for the Presque Isle Indoor Pool. Students will need to be picked up from the school at 3 p.m. Classes include Learn to Swim I-V.
Session two runs from July 30-August 10, with a postponement date of August 6-August 17. In the August session, lessons will be held Monday-Friday for a 2-week period.
Classes include: Learn to Swim IV/V, from 9:30-10:20 a.m.; Learn to Swim I, from 10:30-11:20 a.m.; Learn to Swim I, from 10:30-11:20 a.m.; Parent and Child Aquatics, from 10:30-11:20 a.m.; Learn to Swim II, from 11:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m.; and Learn to Swim III, from 11:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m.
