FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Forty-two Fort Fairfield High School seniors gathered June 10 in the school’s gymnasium with their teachers, family, and friends to celebrate their completion of high school.
The class procession was led by the Class President, Sadie Ayoob, and the Vice President, Heather Hathaway to a slow marching song played by the school band. Class Secretary, Casey Egan, and class Treasurer, Rachel Worcester, brought up the rear of the procession wielding their banners in perfect unison.

Ayoob began the ceremony by sharing a key piece of advice with her classmates. Quoting a popular singer, Natasha Bedingfield, she encourages her fellow classmates to “release their inhibitions and live their lives with arms wide open.” She added that graduation allowed some students to metaphorically have a “clean page,” and that the students should make the most of this opportunity.
Ayoob’s theme was continued by the class salutatorian, Lauren Beckwith, who encouraged her classmates to “blaze” their “own trails through the future” and to “keep in mind that it is okay to make mistakes.” She went onto to share with the audience her own struggle with depression, and the wisdom that she gained when she finally was able to overcome this challenge. Her final message to the class was to appreciate the life that they were given and to make good choices in the summer to come.
Class Valedictorian, Hathaway concluded the string of speakers. In her address, she suggested that her classmates remember two things when they leave high school. First, she advised the students to “never give up” on their dream. Second, she suggested that the graduating class should never forget the family, friends, and teachers who attended the graduation, because, in her opinion, these individuals represent the most “formative people” that they will meet in their “entire life.” She concluded her address by thanking her classmates and all of the parents, including her own, in the room “for everything that they have done.”
