Caribou Middle School recently hosted the county track and field championships at the Caribou High School track. Both the girls and boys teams from CMS took the first-place team wins, with 117 and 191.5 points, respectively.
In second overall for the girls was Presque Isle Blue team, with a score of 84; Fort Fairfield was third, with 56; Presque Isle White team was fourth, with 46; Limestone was fifth, at 30; Fort Kent came in sixth, with 11; and Woodland was seventh, with five.
On the boys side, it was the Presque Isle White team, with 75.5 in second; Presque Isle Blue in third, with 43; Fort Fairfield in fourth, with 18, Limestone in fifth, with nine; and Woodland in sixth with one point.
Individually, Juanita Myles, of Limestone, was the top individual scorer, earning her team 30 points. Amber Ayotte, of CMS, was second with 28; Kayla Richards, of PIB, and Olivia Sleeper, of CMS, tied for third with 26; Kaitlyn Kinsey, of FFMS, was fifth with 23; Chelsea Nickerson, of PIB, came in sixth with 22.5; Alecia Palmer, of PIW, scored 20; Laura Collins, of CMS, earned 14; and Victoria Winslow, PIB, Tessa Ward, PIW, and Katelynn Plourde, CMS, all tied for ninth with 12 points each.
On the boys side, the top 10 individual scorers were Phil Smith and Zach Lavallee, both of Caribou, with 36 and 32 points, respectively. Tied with Lavallee for second was Oliver Zubrick, of PIW. Mitchell Thompson, Christian Sleeper and Matt Till, all of Caribou, came in fourth through sixth, with scores of 28, 22 and 21.5, respectively. Brandon Bonville, of PIW, came in seventh with 19; Nathan McLaughlin, of Fort Fairfield earned his team 18; and Brandon Gibson, of PIB, and Jacob Michaud, of CMS, tied for ninth with 16 points.
In the girls 100 meter dash, Juanita Myles came in first with a time of 12.91 seconds; Chelsea Nickerson was second in 13.46; Valeria Valdez, of Fort Fairfield, came in third in 13.83; Amber Ayotte finished in fourth in 13.84; Tessa Ward, of PIW, finished in 13.85 and earned a fifth place finish; and rounding out the top six point scorers was Kaitlyn Kinsey in 14.43.
Juanita Myles took first yet again in the 200 meter dash, with a time of 28.13 seconds. Also finishing in second was Chelsea Nickerson, with a time of 29.16; Amber Ayotte finished third in 29.59; Tessa Ward was fourth in 30.41; Valeria Valdez was fifth in 30.51; and Katelynn Plourde was sixth in 30.75.
Amber Ayotte outran the other girls in the 400 meter dash, finishing the event in 1 minute, 6.37 seconds. Kayla Richards finished second in 1:07.78; Tessa Ward finished third in 1:08.09; Laura Collins was fourth in 1:09.62; Shac Adler, of PIB, finished fifth in 1:12.47; and Klairssa Kern, of CMS, finished sixth in 1:16.45.
For the girls 800 meter run, Alecia Palmer finished first in 2 minutes, 46 seconds; Olivia Sleeper finished second in 2:48; Chelsea Nickerson finished third in 2:49; Laura Collins was fourth in 2:50; Katie Nadeau, of Fort Kent, was fifth in 2:51; and Katelyn Plourde finished in sixth with a time of 2:53.
Alecia Palmer took first place again in the 1,600 meter run, with a time of 6 minutes, four seconds; in second was Olivia Sleeper in 6:07; MacKenzie Pinnette, of PIW, finished third in 6:15; Kendra Stevens, of Woodland, came in fourth in 6:18; Emily Wright, of PIB, was fifth in 6:20; and Mary Jo Sheehan, of Woodland, rounded out the top six in 6:35.
Kaitlyn Kinsey finished in first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.13 seconds; Olivia Sleeper finished second in 19.32; Mychaela Lunney, of PIB, was third with 20.00; Demarre Corriveau, of CMS, was fourth in 20.03; Lindsey Graves, of FFMS, came in fifth in 20.22; and Morgan Bartlett, of PIB, was sixth in 20.42.
The FFMS team 4×100 meter relay team, Kaitlyn Kinsey, Samantha Lewis, Lindsey Graves and Valeria Valdez, took first place with a time of 1 minute, 1.41 seconds; in second place was the CMS team, Klairssa Kern, Elainee Norris, Erin Madore and Lydia Kieffer, in 1:02.01; Melissa Tompkins, Haley Bouchard, Amy Jandreau and Karlee Bernier, of PIW, came in third in 1:02.54; and the PIB team was fourth with Christina Hathaway, Erica Hemphil, Mychaela Lunney and Chelsea Nickerson finishing in 1:02.59.
Three teams competed in the 4×200 meter relay, with CMS taking the top spot in 2 minutes, 11.31 seconds. Klairssa Kern, Brianna Gorence, Katelynn Plourde and Laura Collins made up the first-place team. The PIB girls, Christina Hathaway, Kaitlyn Dye, Shac Adler and Claire Cheney, finished in 2:16.55; and the PIW girls, Katelyn McPherson, Karlee Bernier, Haley Bouchard and MacKenzie Pinnette finished in 2:19.41.
It was Kaitlyn Kinsey taking first place in the high jump after she cleared 4 feet, 10 inches; Amber Ayotte came in second with 4-08; Ashley Clark, of CMS, was third with 4-00; Katie Nadeau, of FKMS, came in fourth with 4-00; Riley Elliott-Currie, of PIB, came in fifth with 3-10; and Lydia Kieffer also cleared 3-10 to round up the top six scorers for the event.
Juanita Myles jumped 13 feet, 11.5 inches, earning her first-place in the long jump; Katelyn Plourde jumped 13-06 and took second; in third was Kayla Richards with 12-05.5; fourth place went to Laura Collins with 12-05; Olivia Sleeper was fifth with 12-04.5; and in sixth was Shac Alder with 11-06.
Kayla Richards won the shot put event with her 27 foot, 11 inch throw; Victoria Winslow came in second with 26-08; Jessica Zbylut, of CMS, was third with 26-06; Christina Caron, of FKMS, was fourth with 25-09; Sophie Willette, of PIB, came in fifth with 25-07; and Katherine Donovan, of FFMS, came in sixth with 25-06.
In the discus throw, Katherine Donovan came in first with a throw of 74 feet, 9 inches; Lydia Kieffer came in second with 74-06; Samantha Lewis came in third with 64-02; in fourth was Victoria Winslow with 57-10; Kayla Richards was fifth with 57-07; and Jessica Zbylut was sixth with 56-05.
On the boys side, Mitchell Thompson, of CMS, came in first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.52 seconds; Phil Smith, also of CMS, was second in 12.77; Oliver Zubrick and Brandon Bonville, both of PIW, came in third and fourth, respectively, with times of 13.34 and 13.36; Brandon Gibson, of PIB, finished in fifth, in 13.69; and Cody Charette, of CMS, finished sixth in 13.76.
Mitchell Thompson also took first in the 200 meter dash, finishing the race in 27.15 seconds; Oliver Zubrick was second in 27.28; Zach Lavallee, Matt Till and Cody Charette, all of CMS, came in third through fifth, respectively, with times of 28.13, 28.59 and 29.28; and Brandon Bonville was sixth in 29.29.
Zach Lavallee finished the 400 meter dash in one minute, .03 seconds, earning him first-place in the 400 meter dash; Brandon Bonville was second, in 1:00.31; Matt Till came in third in 1:01.87; Mitchell Thompson was fourth in 1:02.95; Jason Levesque, of CMS, was fifth in 1:03.03; Cole Richards, of PIW, was sixth in 1:05.51.
For the 800 meter run, Christian Sleeper was first, with a time of two minutes, 27 seconds. In second was Jacob Michaud, of CMS, with a time of 2:31; Nathan McLaughlin, of FFMS, came in third in 2:35; Zack Rainier, of PIB, and Robbie Kehn, of CMS, tied for fourth in 2:36; and Jake Maher, of CMS, was sixth in 2:41.
Christian Sleeper also took first place in the 1,600 meter run, finishing the race in 5:20; Jacob Michaud was second in 5:41; Kyle McEwin, of CMS, was third in 6:25; Thomas Freeman, of PIW, was fourth in 6:29; Sean Barboss and Ryan Washington, both of CMS, came in fifth and sixth, respectively with times of 6:52 and 6:54.
In the 100 meter hurdle event, Phil Smith, of CMS, finished in first with a time of 16.31 seconds; Zach Lavallee was second in 16.41; Nathan McLaughlin finished third with 17.47; Cole Richards, of PIW, came in fourth in 18.53; Zack Rainier was fifth in 18.97; and Ben Sipe, of PIB finished sixth in 19.28.
For the 4×100 meter relay, the PIB team finished the event in 56.48 seconds. Brandon Gibson, Sam Clukey, Logan Good and Ben Sipe were the only participants in the event that were noted in the official results.
The Caribou Middle School team took first place in the 4×200 meter relay event, with Cody Charette, Christian Sleeper, Jake Maher and Jason Levesque finishing the race in 1 minute 55.79 seconds; LMS was second with Joshua Forsman, Justin Thompson, Dylan Caldwell and Zachory Cote finishing in 2:04.20; PIB was third with Josh Allen, Sam Clukey, Travis Powers and Zack Ranier finishing in 2:067.61; PIB finished in fourth, with Ross Harris, Khyver Lowe, Jonah Stephenson and Jacob Williams finishing in 2:24.44.
Oliver Zubrick placed first in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 10 inches; Zach Lavallee was second with 4-10; Brandon Bonville was third with 4-08; Jason Levesque was fourth with 4-08; and Matt Till and Cole Richards tied for fifth with 4-04.75;
Matt Till jumped 15 feet, 10.5 inches to take first in the long jump; Phil Smith was second with 15-08.5; Nathan McLaughlin was third with 15-06.75; Mitchell Thompson was fourth with 14-05; Cole Richards was fifth with 13-04; and Logan Good, of PIB, was sixth with 13-03.5.
For the shot put, Phil Smith placed first with a throw of 38 feet, 10 inches; Oliver Zubrick was second with 35-04.5; Stephen Goulet, of PIW, was third with 34-05; David Rowland, of PIB, was fourth with 34-02; Brandon Gibson was fifth, with 32-09.75; and Dylan Caldwell was sixth with 31-11.5.
Brandon Gibson was first in the discus with a throw of 109 feet, 5 inches; Jake Maher was second with 94-08; Davida Rowland, of PIB, was third with 93-03; Stephen Goulet was fourth with 88-11; Dylan Caldwell was fifth with 85-07; and Ethan Stetson, of Woodland, was sixth with 83-09.
