Patriots baseball off to fast start

The Presque Isle Patriots lost both ends of a doubleheader at Trenton Saturday, but are still looking strong as the midpoint of the American Legion Zone 1 baseball season.
    The Patriots, coached by Richard Parsons, are sporting a 6-3 record heading into a home doubleheader against the Brewer Falcons Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at the James E. Dyer Baseball  Field at Presque Isle High School.
In Saturday’s games, Trenton moved into first place with a sweep, taking the twinbill by scores of 13-6 and 14-5. Mike Cleary had a two-run double and Logan York knocked in a pair of runs with a single in the opener, while Pat Thibodeau and Tom Desjardins had two hits apiece in game two. Cleary and Tyler Lamoureaux were tagged with the pitchng losses.
On Thursday, the Patriots wrapped up a five-game winning streak thanks to an 8-2 victory at Orono.
Presque Isle had trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the sixth, but turned three defensive miscues by Orono into four runs to take command. Joe Soucy and Pat Thibodeau had RBI singles during the sixth-inning rally.
The Patriots added insurance in the top of the seventh as Soucy banged out another RBI hit and came across on an RBI double off the bat of Andrew York.
York was the winning pitcher, firing a complete-game four-hitter and striking out 13 along the way.
Cleary added a pair of doubles to the winning offense.
Last Tuesday, Matt McGlinn had a two-run double and Hunter Caron and Cleary totalled three hits each in the Patriots’ 13-10 home win over Hampden.
Lamoureaux notched the pitching victory, with Desjardins closing out the game in relief.
