FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine – The Maine Agri-Women will host their annual potato cooking contest at the 60th Maine Potato Blossom Festival Saturday, July 21.
The event seeks to promote and bring attention to the importance of the potato in Aroostook County. There are five categories in the potato cooking contest: breads, casseroles, desserts, salads and soups. Winners in each category will be based on four qualities: appearance of each dish, texture, ease of preparation and flavor. Recipes must have potatoes as an ingredient. Contestants must bring a copy of the complete recipe along with the dish. Contestants may cook a recipe for two categories.
The contest will be held in the Fort Fairfield Elementary School cafeteria. Entrants are urged to bring in dishes between 10-10:30 a.m. Judging will begin at 11 a.m.
The grand prize will be worth $200. There will also be first and second prizes in each category.
