    AUGUSTA – The Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) Maine State Council has announced that 25 companies have been named in the second annual “Best Places to Work in Maine” program.     For the second year in a row, MMG Insurance in Presque Isle has made the list.
    The event, presented in conjunction with the Best Companies Group, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Department of Labor, JobsInME.com, Employment Times, Mainebiz, Verill Dana and ProSearch, recognizes companies that have established and consistently fostered outstanding workplace environments.

    The assessment process, administered by the Best Companies Group and Modern Think LLC, incorporated a company’s employee policies and procedures, as well as responses from the company’s employees. The program marks the most recent step in a long-term initiative to encourage growth and excellence throughout all Maine companies.
    “This was a particularly great year for the Best Places to Work program,” said Peter Burke, president of the Best Companies Group. “The companies included on the list not only represent the sort of outstanding workplace environment that exists in Maine, but also a significant amount of diversity, both in the size of the companies as well as the sort of business activities each pursues.”
    The program also helps companies on a firsthand basis by presenting an “Assessment Findings Report” to each participating company, which provides significant benchmarks and helps that company enhance, maintain or improve policies and procedures in its workplace.
    Rankings will be announced on Oct. 2 at an awards and recognition reception and dinner at the Augusta Civic Center. Gov. John E. Baldacci is scheduled to attend.
