PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – City staff who normally spend their days serving the needs of others, took time off July 25 to enjoy a little down time for their efforts.

“City offices were closed around 3 p.m. that Wednesday so city employees could take part in our annual health and wellness picnic,” said City Manager Tom Stevens.
Beautiful weather greeted those attending the function held at Mantle Lake Park. While the children of city staff enjoyed a number of games and activities, the adults took time to mingle with their counterparts from other departments.
“This gives our employees a chance to spend time with folks from other offices – folks they consider ‘co-workers’ but don’t get an opportunity to see on a daily basis,” said Stevens.
Safety and wellness information was available for those interested in learning more. The Presque Isle Fire Department brought two trucks and the first responder vehicle to the event and welcomed questions about the department and the duties involved working there.
Mimi the Library Mime – from the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library – was on hand to entertain, while firefighters were put in charge of the barbecue grill.
“The picnic is a great chance to get away from the office and just have a fun afternoon,” said Jim Kaiser, director of the Forum.
Staff returned to their normal duties and office hours on Thursday, July 26.
