Fancy footwork — The Houlton Rollaway Rink opened for the season Thursday night when a large and appreciative audience assembled to see the world’s champion and most famous artist Prof. H.R. Davis of New York City.
Prof. Davis showed the Houlton people who think they can skate that there are movements on rollers that they have never heard of.
Best in the class — On Monday evening, Prof. L.M. Felch was surprised at his residence on Pleasant Street with a supper by a party of Ricker students who presented him with a handsome leather upholstered chair in recognition of their regard for the principal of their school.

New wing — Ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held Wednesday when the new south wing at Madigan Hospital was opened for inspection to the public.
Big money — The pupils of Houlton earned $85,457.64 during the 1957 potato harvest, according to a recent survey conducted in 12 grades by Superintendent of Schools Lloyd Robinson. A total of 341,830 barrels were picked by the 1957 crew which included first graders and a special class at Bowdoin Street School.

Election results — Houlton town council, its town manager and its charter all came out unscathed as a result of voting in the Nov. 2 general election.
A turnout of 2,504 voters rejected solidly six proposed amendments to the town charter. Turnout represented 62 percent of Houlton’s registered voters.
Edgar Wheeler was elected sheriff by a nearly 2,400-vote margin. In Bridgewater, 344 persons went to the polls for the local issue involving a proposed withdrawal from SAD 42. The proposal was favored 172 to 167, but this wasn’t sufficient to approve the withdrawal.
