VNA celebrates home care, hospice month

    More than 11 million Americans receive home-delivered health care and hospice services from home health care providers. In their honor, Visiting Nurses of Aroostook joins the National Association for Home Care & Hospice in celebrating November as National Home Care & Hospice Month.
    “Caring for the sick, elderly and dying in their homes truly is a privilege for us,” said Saundra Scott-Adams, Executive Vice President of Visiting Nurses of Aroostook. “Home care professionals, volunteers and modern medicine make it possible for people to stay in their homes, regardless of their condition. We are proud of our 168 staff members and our volunteers that work hard every day to provide care to those who need us.”
    Through technological advances, home-delivered health care has grown far beyond basic professional nursing and home care aide services. Today’s modern home care agency offers a wealth of nursing, physical, occupational, respiratory and speech therapies, counseling, dietary and personal care.
    Home care services are paid for by public and private sources, or directly by patients and their families. Home care continues to be the preferred means of receiving quality health care services for millions of Americans.
    Visiting Nurses of Aroostook was founded in 1969 to provide comprehensive in-home health and supportive services for Aroostook County’s disabled and chronically ill patients and their families. Its care giving team offers services ranging from basic assistance with daily living to advanced medical treatment. Last year their caring staffs drove 781,813 miles to provide 42,694 visits to 1,131 patients and their families. VNA, a part of the Eastern Maine HomeCare Family, is a member of EMHS, which works to ensure the highest quality home care to all who need it, especially those in rural Maine.
