American Red Cross means much more

To the editor:
I am a new Red Cross volunteer and would like to share my experience with others. When I thought of the American Red Cross I originally associated Blood Drives. Boy was I wrong.     The American Red Cross is about local people helping local people when they need it the most. Disasters can happen at any time and to anyone.
A couple of months ago, we had a major storm that left us without power, uprooted trees and damaged homes. I wonder how many people were aware that the Red Cross Disaster Team (of which I am now a member) were on 48-hour alert.
They train staff and volunteers in emergency preparedness, teaching first aid, and CPR – both human and pet. They deliver messages for Armed Forces and their families. This is all at no charge to those being helped.
That little office in Presque Isle covers all of Aroostook County. So with the giving season close at hand I would hope you will think Red Cross. If it is money, blood or time you can give, please think Red Cross. All are much needed. Thank you.
