Grades five and six basketball registration
Registration for the grades five and six basketball will be held at the recreation center. Presque Isle residents may register beginning Monday, Nov. 19. Non-resident registration begins Monday, Nov. 26. The registration fee is $15.
Fowl shooting competition
The Recreation Department will host a ‘Fowl’ shooting contest for children in grades three to six and their parent(s) or grandparent(s). There are eight divisions to participate in: grades three and four mother/daughter, mother/son, father/daughter and father/son or grades five and six mother/daughter, mother/son, father/daughter and father/son. The winner of each division will receive a Thanksgiving turkey (fowl) donated by Friends Market. Participants may come in to shoot on the following days and times: November 14, 15 and 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Thanksgiving Week Activities
Monday, Nov. 19: children, grades three to five, can travel to Caribou to see a special matinee showing. Movie choices were not available at press time. The fee is $5, and children are asked to register by Friday, Nov. 16.
Tuesday, Nov. 20: bowling at Northern Lanes for children grades one to eight. Children may drop in between 10:00 a.m. and noon. The cost is $3, and that covers the cost of bowling and shoe rental. Parents must provide transportation.
Friday, Nov. 21: Presque Isle residents can partake in a Dollar Day at the Indoor Pool, swimming from 3:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. There will be open gym on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with a Contest Day taking place during open gym on Wednesday. From 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., children grades one to six can participate in checkers, ping-pong, connect four and hoop shoot with chances to win candy or other prizes. Open gym times will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for elementary students and 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. for middle/high school students. These times will also continue on Saturdays and Sundays starting on Saturday, Nov. 24.
Youth cross country skiing program and rentals
The Recreation Department will be teaming up with the Nordic Heritage Center to hold a youth cross country skiing program this winter. The program will be for students grades three to eight. The program will run on Thursdays from Jan. 17th to Feb. 14th, then Wednesdays from Feb. 27th to Mar. 26th, from 3:15 to 5:00 p.m. There will also be meetings on Saturdays from Jan. 19th to Mar. 29th from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with the exception of Feb. 23rd. The fee for the program is $15 for Presque Isle residents, non-residents will be charged an additional fee. Skis are available for rental through the season through Mojo. Total packages are available at the Recreation Center for $40 before November 15th, $50 after. Please call 764-2545 for more information.
Kids’ Christmas party
The Recreation Department is once again hosting a Christmas party for children in grades one to five. The event will be on Friday, Dec. 14 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Parents can finish up some Christmas shopping while their kids enjoy an evening of fun. Activities will include bingo, gym games, a Red Sox Swap and eating pizza. Pre-registration is required with limited space available. The fee is $5 per child, plus a $3 to $5 Red Sox Swap gift. Registration begins Friday, Nov. 28.
