Patten Woman’s Club
By Doris DeRespino

The Patten Woman’s Club met at the Lumberman’s Museum on Nov. 14.  Our guest was Rachel Thompson from the Maine Energy Education program.  She spoke about the need for reducing our use of energy around the home.
Our next meeting will be Dec. 12, at Harriet Bagley’s.  All women in the area are invited to join us.  Call Doris DeRespino at 528-2629 for information.

    Sherman Area Senior Citizen’s Club

On Nov. 21, the Sherman area senior citizens club, including members who live in adjoining areas of Benedicta, Silver Ridge and Stacyville met for potluck lunch at the Sherman gym.
Plans were made for combining the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner where we will enjoy turkey, which Annie will provide, and the club people will bring the “fixings”. The potato gravy will also be provided. Call Annie to announce your donation—veggies and pies. Come fraternize and eat healthy on “that day” of Dec. 5.
Because we will be entertained by our fourth grade Secret Pals, who come from Katahdin Elementary on our second meeting of Dec. 19, we voted to bring a bag lunch and be at the gym at 11 a.m. to be ready for their arrival. Letters will be our mode of getting acquainted prior Dec. 19. Watch your mailboxes and answer promptly.    I am sure that each of us “seniors” eagerly awaits the Christmas meeting with the “young ones”.
Present on the Nov. 21 meeting were: Fred and Annie Akinson, Richard and Margorie Hall, Margaret McLelan, Sandra Qualey, Bonita Staples, Linniea Perry, Mary Lawler, Eva Perry and Mardgaret Duffy.
Thanks to our speaker from the RSVP office in Presque Isle. We were informed of news within medicine and opportunities available for the use of RSVP. She is no stranger to us, Ginni Garret, by name.

Ricker Rumblings
By Lois Downing

Hello everyone. This column is composed Sunday p.m. The word is a snowstorm. We’re ready and wonder “if and when.” How many inches? Those are the questions.
What a wonderful way to spend a couple hours! That is what I thought as so many more did on Saturday morning, December 1, when the Houlton Wesleyan Church ladies performed its Christmas tea. They keep getting better with the decorations, friends, Christmas spirit and the music! Thank you to all who attended—many of my friends were there, as yours were too. The food was delicious and the performances were great—thanks to all, right down to the numerous men in their Santa hats who helped park our cars. You do us right!! Thank you very much.
“‘Tis the season to be jolly.” That is the spirit as we plug on with our decorations, plans, gifts, and what not. If only everyone had as much as we do, then maybe we would be satisfied, huh!
Eric A. Robinson of Port St. Lucie, Florida will be visiting with his mother, Peggy Robinson. Eric is Peggy’s oldest son and she is excited this is Eric’s first visit here since her move in five years. Welcome to Ricker, Eric and have a wonderful visit with family.
I witnessed Jason Crabb, a Christian vocalist, often seen on TV’s TBN, in Charleston while I was away recently. His powerful voice and praise was one that can be heard on a radio station from Bangor. Some of you out there could be his fans, I’m sure.
Pauline Megquire has been feeling better recently but still not up to par. Keep on improving, Pauline.
Norma Bates was able to be present for the Christmas tea at the Wesleyan Church. Norma, usually pours coffee at this time, but not this year. Soon, Norma, soon. Good to see you.
Here are some knock, knock jokes: Knock, knock. Who’s there? Seymour. Seymour who? Seymore Christmas lights this year!; Knock, knock. Who’s there? Noah. Noah who? Noah more holiday jokes please! Why does Santa have a garden? Because he likes to hoe, hoe, hoe!
Advent is upon us. On that note, I’ll say have a prayerful one and see you next week.
Have a wonderful one and safe too.
