Luncheon puts people in holiday spirit

To the editor:
About this time every year the senior citizens of this area are invited to a Chicken Stew Luncheon with Bingo to follow. The Presque Isle High School Key Club and their teacher, Mrs. Roope, host this event with help from the Elks Club.    The chicken stew warms the body, but the Christmas atmosphere, complete with Santa hats and colorful, seasonal sweaters, warmed the soul! The students were mannerly and did their jobs with a smile (hard to do when requests were fired at them from all directions “more coffee,” “our rolls have run out,” “I dropped my spoon,” and “quick, I just spilled my water all over the table!”)
Soon these young folks will enter the adult world with all its problems and worry. I’m sure they will cope with this new world as well as they did today and may they always use their smile, it opens so many doors.
Thanks again to both the Key Club and the Elks.
The Bingo prizes were many and the friendly competition fierce, but I think the very best prize was won by everyone who came Saturday. The chance to meet friends and to join in the rekindling of the Christmas celebration.
