Why attend Leadership Presque Isle?

I don’t know if you have heard or not, but the City is offering a new program called Leadership Presque Isle. I’d like to take a moment and explain this program and why it is important that you should consider attending it.     Leadership Presque Isle is a new program to increase citizen involvement and to build leadership skill capacity. By doing so, the City can continue to meet its mission in serving the needs as a community of regional importance. Participants will become better informed on the services the City provides, current issues facing the community and the opportunity to become involved in community affairs. It is then hoped that participants will put these skills to use by becoming involved in community affairs, serving on committees or otherwise volunteering their expertise to better serve the community.
The program will be offered each Wednesday evening from 7pm-9pm for five weeks beginning January 16, 2008. The cost is very affordable at only $10. The class is limited to 20 participants. Various city, school and county officials will volunteer their time to offer this program. Each participant will have an opportunity to meet and interact with officials, tour various departments and participate in a ride along with police, fire and public works. As you can see there is something for everyone, and it will be fun!
This is not an overwhelming time commitment. The price can’t be beat. You’ll get to meet community leaders. You can ride along with some interesting departments if you want to. And, in the end the only thing we ask is that you put your skills to use. Who knows, it may open up a whole of opportunity to you!
The need to insure present and future skills can not be understated. What if skills in the past had been lacking? If they had, Presque Isle would not be the community it is today. The City needs leaders now and in the future. Individuals should attend to become better citizens. Businesses should have employees at all levels attend to become better employees who are supportive of improving the overall business climate of the community.
We think that this program and others like it provide the opportunity to enhance leadership. Sometimes it is only a matter of asking someone to become involved and they will do so. So, consider yourself being asked to attend!
If you would like more information about this program or would like to register by December 31st, please call 764-4485.
