NEW HOME — Tang’s Chinese Cuisine is preparing to move to this North Street site. Owners are hoping to open at this new location within the next few weeks.
The restaurant, currently in the Houlton Shopping Plaza next to Mardens, is working to open in the next few weeks at the former Furniture & Floors North store.
Jacky Deng, whose parents Johnny and Emily own the eatery, said they’ve been working on the new site since July. Demolition happened throughout the summer and new construction started in September.
Multiple contractors have helped with the major renovations, and Deng was quick to express appreciation to the crews.
“We’ve talked to a lot of different people throughout this, and everyone’s been really great,” he said. “We just want to say thanks to all our contractors.”
The finished location will be completely updated with an all new interior.
“The new dining room will be about three times bigger than our current dining room,” he explained. “Right now, we have about 120 seats. In the new building, we’ll have about 130. We’re not necessarily trying to increase the seating, but we will be able to offer a more spacious dining room.”
Layout of the new dining area will be similar to the Tang’s restaurant in Presque Isle, he said.
The Houlton restaurant will continue to have their plentiful buffet with at least one new twist. The family is hoping to add a special grilling section to their buffet.
One element that won’t change when Tang’s moves down the street: their quality Asian cuisine.
“We’re not changing our cook or anything,” Deng said. “People can still expect the same quality of food.”
As part of Tang’s upcoming grand opening celebration, the restaurant is planning to offer its customers the chance to win a variety of prizes in the coming months. Prizes will include a TV, DVD player and more.
All are welcome to come watch local celebrities draw the winning names; dates of the drawings will be announced.
Tang’s Chinese Cuisine, soon to be located at 60 North St., is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. They can be reached at 532-9981 or 532-9982
