The Greater Houlton Christian Academy girls’ basketball team kept their early-season record perfect with a win over Hodgdon last Thursday.
GHCA, who went 17-1 last year, moved to 2-0 with a win over the Lady Hawks, 47-34.
After taking an early 13-6 lead the Lady Eagles never looked back, outscoring them in the second and fourth quarters.
Sarah Riopel and Kari Brewer both chipped in big with 16 points for GHCA. Sam Carpenter led the Lady Hawks with 9.
The Lady Eagles, after winning their first two away games, now have eight of their next nine games at home. In this stint they play a very tough Washburn team, as well as Ashland, who they beat in a quarterfinal match-up last year at the Bangor Auditorium.
Although the Lady Eagles graduated four of their five starters from last year’s semifinal team, they still have plenty of big game experience with six returning players.
GHCA fought to stay undefeated in a game against the tough Ashland team at UMPI last night.
“As long as we play our game, play together, and work hard we will do fine,” said GHCA senior Sarah Riopel confidently before the game.
The Lady Eagles square off against Katahdin tonight at UMPI at 5p.m.
