DFAS staff visit Veterans’ Home residents

On Thursday, Dec. 13, sixteen staff members from the Defense Finance Accounting Service, DFAS, visited the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou to share what Christmas is all about with the residents. The residents were in awe of how DFAS could have found out what was on their wish lists and to provide them with what they really wanted.

“Elaine Selfridge, (of DFAS) called me several times to see what the residents would like to have the most,” stated Shirley Dubay, activity coordinator at the Maine Veterans’ Home.
“To see the teamwork of DFAS was incredible and very moving, not only for the residents, but for everyone to see. After the DFAS team left that afternoon, the sounds of joy could be heard as the residents shared together in each other’s rooms. This was a gift in itself that everyone should have the feeling of giving,” said Dubay.
“A special thanks to all the members that took part in this program and to give the residents the true meaning of Christmas. Happy holidays from all the staff at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou.
