HOULTON — Tune up those vocal chords.
The search for Aroostook County’s next singing superstar is about to start.
Aroostook Idol competition kicks off in Houlton with contestants vying for the top honors on Saturday at the Houlton High School auditorium. Similar competitions will be held later in central and northern Aroostook; winners from each regional competition will compete for the Aroostook Idol title in a March finale. Proceeds from the events benefit United Way of Aroostook.
United Way of Aroostook’s Claudia Stevens said last week that the Houlton competition is already filled to its capacity.
“Fifteen contestants was the maximum number of contestants that we were allowing in the show,” she explained. “And we are at full capacity.”
Those signed up to sing include: Linda Slauenwhite of Oakfield, Carolyn Devoe of Houlton, Dawn Graham of Weston, Becky Lynn Small of Monticello, Brittani Suitter of Monticello, Caleb Richardson of Houlton, Christie Dobbins of Houlton, Doris Sherman of Oakfield, Tadd Hamel of Sherman, Brandon Clark of Houlton, Renae Russell of Island Falls, Windy Scott of Houlton, Melissa Tilley of Blaine, Mariah Brewer of Mars Hill and David Dow of Houlton.
Stevens said this year’s judges are Sherrill Campbell, Colleen Duplisse and Brian Mosher.
“We are very excited about our Houlton show,” added Stevens. “Houlton has some wonderful talent and we can’t wait to hear the contestants compete.”
Aroostook Idol competition starts at 7 p.m. at the Houlton High School auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 2. Winners from this show (and the two other regional shows) will compete in the finale on Sunday, March 2 at the Caribou Performing Arts Center.
