HOULTON, Maine — A former Houlton Police Department officer died last week.
Wayne Scarano died Jan. 23 in a Portsmouth, N.H. hospital while recovering from a prolonged illness. He was 63.
Scarano served with the Houlton Police Department, starting in 1975. He advanced to the rank of lieutenant in the Houlton department before leaving in 1988 to become chief of the Millinocket Police Department. He was chief there until his retirement in 1996.
A graduate of Ricker College and a veteran of the Vietnam War, he was the son of Victor and Helen Scarano. He is survived by one son, Mark, of Ashland, N.H.
