The annual meeting of the Whittier Congregational Church was held Jan. 27, following the morning worship service. Prior to the opening of the meeting, a prayer was given by Pastor Michael Kasevich. Patti Hartin was elected to chair the meeting and all the articles were fully discussed and all were accepted, as reported. After the meeting, a luncheon prepared by the deacons was served and much enjoyed by all who attended.
Clayton and Charlene Webb have been recent overnight guests of their niece and family, Greg and Darlene Kenny in Bangor. While in Bangor, Charlene consulted her family physician before returning home.
The annual Lenten breakfasts held at the Whittier Congregational Church will begin on Feb. 10 and will continue each Sunday throughout Lent. These breakfasts are sponsored by the deacons and have become very popular and are well attended. Candy and Don McKellar will be the hosts at the Feb. 10 breakfast, which will feature toasted homemade bread and bacon made by Sam Sewall, and, hopefully, homemade jelly, plus all the usual breakfast foods. Serving will be from 7-8:30 a.m. and the public is cordially invited.
During the short warm spell we all enjoyed recently, I noticed that my barn has become a home to two cats, one yellow and one black, so therefore, I have added them to my menagerie and have been feeding them, too. They appear quite friendly, so maybe they belong to the neighborhood.
I still have my squirrels gobbling up the sunflower seeds and the two big gray ones are still hanging precariously by their hind feet to get at the enclosed feeder. I haven’t seen a cardinal in quite a long time – not since all the snow started to arrive.
Every afternoon, the deer family begins their parade from the woods, up their well-worn trail, to their feeding area, being very cautious and taking their time. A friend gave me a large bag of special deer feed she no longer needed, and the deer seem to really enjoy that along with the bread and apples.
I have been putting some of their goodies out front, and people driving by slow down to watch them. Once in awhile. they get skittish and then make great leaps over my snow banks and head for safer territory. When all is quiet, they return to finish what was left.
