“The American String Teachers Association, What is that?” you ask. Well, the American String Teachers Association or ASTA is a gigantic concert with musicians coming from all over the state to perform together.     Musicians are categorized by skill level. Orchestra 1 musicians are beginning musicians that play simple compositions. Orchestra 2 musicians have to know how to read sheet music and play more complex compositions. Orchestra 3 and 4 musicians are older, moderate level musicians that read tougher sheet music, and Orchestra 5 musicians are the most advanced musicians.
Musicians come from all over the state to perform with their peers, perform their best, and show off their talent. There is no winning, losing or any competition at all. Just a relaxed atmosphere, where people that want to play and learn new music.
ASTA, this year is in Orono, Maine on May 10th. So if you love music or just want to sit back, relax, and listen to a little music then come on down to ASTA, where competition is a foreign word.
