PRESQUE ISLE – The Caribou boys’ fifth and sixth grade travel team defeated a team of Aroostook County All-Stars to capture the championship of the University of Maine at Presque Isle Basketball Shoot-Out over the weekend.
BASKETBALL ELITE – The members of the UMPI fifth and sixth grade shoot out all tournament team were, from the left, Joshua Gordon (Presque Isle), Dayne Savage (Caribou), Chandler Brewer (Mars Hill), Kyle Bouchard (Houlton) and Matt Frost (Caribou). Caribou won all five games during the tournament, which also included teams from Presque Isle and a combined Madawaska and Fort Kent team.
Matt Frost scored nine points, Dayne Savage eight, Breen Blackstone seven, Matt Curry six and Adam Collins five to lead the Vikings to the 39-36 victory in the championship game.
Robert Rockwell scored a game high 14 points while Kyle Bouchard added nine and Chandler Brewer six for the All-Stars who defeated Presque Isle 48-26 to advance to the finals.
Presque Isle was led by Karson Eaton’s seven points with Drew Bates contributing five, Hale Cushman four and Josh Gordon and Mitchell Ayotte adding three points each.
Caribou defeated Madawaska/Fort Kent in the semi-finals 48-43. Corey Nadeau led Mad/FK with a game high 18 points, Cullen Helgeson added seven, while Adam Bouchard scored five, Cody Plourde four and Jake Rioux three.
Dayne Savage from Caribou was selected the tournament Most Valuable Player.
