A local man was sentenced Monday to 17.5 years in prison for transporting or shipping child pornography by computer, according to the U.S. Justice Department. Adam Stone, 29, of Caribou was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor after pleading guilty in January to the federal charges.
In addition to prison time, he will serve five years of supervised release, according to the announcement by Paula D. Silsby, U.S. attorney in Maine.
Court records showed that in June 2005, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation acted on a tip from an undercover detective in Illinois and executed a search warrant on Stone’s residence in Caribou.
A forensic examination of a seized computer’s hard drives found 192 pornographic images of children and six pornographic videos of children, according to court records. An undercover investigation conducted by the Wheaton (Ill.) Police Department found that Stone had posted many of those imaged to a Yahoo! Photo album and made the files available to others.
One of the individuals to whom the defendant had distributed the pornography was the detective from Illinois who had posed as a 15-year-old girl.
Silsby praised the investigation conducted by the FBI with the assistance from the police departments in Caribou and Wheaton.
