PRESQUE ISLE – A local teenager is lucky to be alive, after jumping into the Presque Isle Stream Monday evening.     “A juvenile male had a fight with his girlfriend and jumped in the water. He was able to get out on his own,” said Sgt. Laurie Kelly, of the Presque Isle Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Crown Ambulance, the Presque Isle Fire Department and PIPD responded.
Kelly said she didn’t know how the youth survived, considering the frigid temperature of the water and the proximity to the dam.
“When help arrived, he was up on the bank and very wet. He’s lucky he didn’t get washed into the dam, given the height of the water,” said Kelly. “He was not injured that we could tell, just wet.”
The young man’s name was not being released due to his age. According to Kelly, he was transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center for an evaluation.
