Fish stock report now online

AUGUSTA – To keep anglers informed of what’s going on at their favorite fishing holes, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s Hatcheries Division is posting daily updates of its spring 2008 catchable fish stockings on its Web site. Catchable fish are those stocked to provide an immediate fishery.     “In the past, anglers would hear about when and where fish had been stocked well after the work had been done,” said Todd Langevin, superintendent of hatcheries. “By putting the stocking report online and updating it daily, anglers now will be able to easily locate the waters freshly stocked with catchable trout.”
The stocking report is located at www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing/reports/stocking/index.htm. Waters are listed alphabetically by county. The listing includes the date of the stocking as well as the species, quantity and size of the fish released.
“In response to public demand, we’ve significantly increased our catchable (legal size) trout stocking program,” said John Boland, director of fisheries. “Since most of these fish are stocked to provide an immediate fishery, it’s in everyone’s best interest to inform anglers as to the stocking dates and locations. I’m certain that anglers will appreciate this information, and our Hatchery Division staff should be commended for helping to make this happen.”
The fish stocking report will be updated by 8 a.m. daily when information is available.
