Friday, June 27 is a celebration day at Katahdin Public Library in Island Falls. The 2nd annual Children’s Farm Day will be held and an open house is planned to celebrate the Children’s addition to the library.
In the morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m., the MacDonald family, of Oakfield, will bring their baby animals to the library for a hands-on learning time with the children.
Chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits and perhaps more will be available to see, learn about and pet. The MacDonald’s are very knowledgeable about their animals and enjoy the children’s questions. These animals are touched and handled daily so are very people friendly.
Lemonade and light refreshment will be offered. This event is weather permitting. In the event of rain, it will be rescheduled.
Later in the afternoon, at 1pm, the open house will be held to celebrate the completion of the children’s addition to the library. The addition began last fall and many people assisted in the building, interior work and stocking of the area throughout the winter.
The addition was made possible by a grant from the Steven and Tabitha King Foundation and donations from patrons the addition gives 600 square feet to the library.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m., a reading of the history of the library will be given and a tour held. Refreshments will be offered. The public is welcome.
