Wildlife wonders
There are seven new “residents” living at the home of Edwyna Mills on the Washburn Road. A mother fox and her six cubs are living in the “old Mills home” and are more than fun to watch. They come as close as three feet to visit Edwina, her son Ed Bither and his children, Maddie and Paul. The foxes they live on their natural foods. They also travel across the road to Mike Tarr’s home searching for field mice and other food.
Not to be outdone, the squirrel “family” recently built a nest in the garage of Mike Tarr’s, and one of the wee ones fell out, landing solidly on the cement floor of the garage. The Mills’ family ventured over, and sure enough, Edwyna found him to be still alive! She has nurtured many a wild creature and domestic animal back to life over the years, and she has apparently succeeded once again! The little squirrel is being fed by an eye dropper and is doing quite well, even though his eyes aren’t open as yet. His little head isn’t much bigger than a quarter, but the family keeps on working. Edwyna is “training” her granddaughter Maddie Bither in some animal nursing skills, and along with some help from her brother, Paul, she keeps a close vigil on her patient. His mama makes frequent trips to the front lawn of the Mills’ residence and looks for her young one. The baby squirrel has recently been upgraded to a bit of oatmeal in his milk formula and should soon be ready to be returned to his family and life in the wild.
