City’s 150th develop agenda

Caribou is planning a celebration, a large one, it’s going to last a year and everyone needs to be involved.
The 150th Anniversary Celebration is under way and the general committee along with the steering committee have been meeting monthly lining up events and ironing out details to get things moving  as January 1, 2009 isn’t that far away.
The mission of Caribou’s 150th Anniversary Celebration Committee is to develop a plan of activities and events to be scheduled throughout the year of 2009 that will celebrate and give appropriate recognition to the people and organizations that have contributed to the growth and development of Caribou since 1859.
Among some of the goals of this celebration are to include as many participants as possible including individuals, clubs, organizations, schools and government entities; to present activities and events throughout the year by individuals, clubs, organizations, schools and government entities at times and places easily accessed with reasonable costs or at no cost to the visitor and to consolidate the majority of events near the end of August and early September 2009.
The committees encourages individuals, local groups and families to become involved in this celebration. During recent meetings the large planning group has discussed events including a street dance with livemusic, a community supper, where everyone might bring a dish, a more formal banquet with music from the Big Band era and many other activities and events.
Committee chairperson, Jim Cyr  noted that the 150th logos have been designed by two local artists. These logos will be previewed to the community in an upcoming issue of the Aroostook Republican and News very soon.
One idea the committee is also looking at, aside from having these logos printed on a variety of gift items and keepsakes, is to have them printed on either side of a commemorative coin.
